It might look a little squat at first glance, but slide her open and the SGH-i620 is ready for business. We had some tactile problems with the touch-sensitive buttons up top, but the scroll wheel is like butter. Like most keyboards, we need some more time with it to give it a fair rating, but at first touch it's certainly passable. The screen seems awkwardly tiny compared to most recent smartphones, but it's certainly sharp and bright. In all the phone is a pleasure to hold and quite small enough to pocket, but we're not quite sure how much we could get done with it -- other than the usual photo snapping that Samsung phones are known for.

A match made in hell: Microsoft eying RIM?

A completely unsubstantiated rumor floating among day traders has RIM stock up a pretty penny today, suggesting that Microsoft may be looking to acquire Waterloo's finest in response to Google's meddling in the mobile space. At this point, pundits seem to be merely saying that it "makes sense," not that they've actually caught wind of anything substantial -- but we're kinda hoping Microsoft doesn't get any ideas here. We're not seeing Microsoft pushing a non-Windows Mobile based platform onto licensees any time soon -- particularly one that relies as heavily on Java as the BlackBerry OS does -- and a BlackBerry-branded device running Windows Mobile makes about as much sense as a Mac running Wind... oh, wait.

PSP.jpg Sony has been sending out samples of the PSP in its latest avatar to many media outlets to see how they vibe with the correspondents. The slimmed up version is charming the pants of most journos and here is what the guys at CNET had to say about the consol. The new PSP features 19% depth reduction and is 33% lighter. The keypads are more agile and the lean look goes with the sleek styling. The new PSP boots up faster as compared to the old one. Sony has included the component video breakout cable plus Composite and S-Video cables will also be available; each is expected to sell for around $20. The menu includes a USB charge option, the settlings for TV output includs 16:9 and 4:3 modes, progressive or interlaced and the Games output to TV is at 480 by 272, but UMD movies, videos and photos output is at 720 by 480. The Slim PSP will be out by 10th September and will most likely cost $170; $200 for the Daxter and Star Wars Entertainment Packs, each of which include a game and a 1GB Memory Stick Duo card. Not wanting to be outdone by Apple, Microsoft has "leaked" shots of its upcoming Zune 2 (80GB) and Zune Flash (4GB/8GB) players. Will these models give Apple's iPod Touch a run for its money? No word yet on pricing and availability.

These photos came from a source who cites marketing materials, likely from the retail channel, but were confirmed by a second source as well. Does that mean they're final? I don't know. If I were Microsoft, I might seed the internet with mockups as to confuse
