Aside from the iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and iPod Classic news yesterday, Apple also announced a $200 price drop for the 8GB iPhone, to $399. Nokia decided to jump on the opportunity, with some Google Adwords fun. Poll after the jump.

..[Nokia] wasted no time after yesterday's announcement in taking out Google ads encouraging disheartened, empty-walleted iPhone owners to check out its new MOSH service -- a collaborative mobile media site run by the phone giant -- to "salvage" their devices

This one's firmly in the rumor category, but Ars Technica is reporting that its "mole" had gotten wind of some fairly big plans Sony has in store for this holiday season, not the least of which is a new 40GB PlayStaiton 3 that would retail for $400. What's more, this source says that Sony will also be dropping the price of the 80GB PS3 to $500, and that one or both will come bundled with a Blu-ray version of Spider-Man 3. If that's not enough, Ars Technica is also reporting that Sony will be dropping the price of the tried and true PS2 to a mere $100, which is a rather roundabout way to ensure backwards compatibility but a welcome price drop nonetheless. While Sony's obviously remaining mum on the matter, as both Ars and Joystiq point out, the Tokyo Game Show later this month would seem to be a likely opportunity for it to get official with things, if it in fact has anything to get official with.

Well just like the software emulation-only backwards compatibility that has followed the PlayStation 3 out of Europe, so too has the ol' online compat checker crossed the pond to helpfully inform you of the glitches you can expect in your favorite classic titles if you pick up the new 80GB SKU -- this might be one case where the early adopters really did get a better deal.

You've got to stay on the bleeding edge of component offerings when you're trying to charge the prices that Alienware does, so it's no surprise that the Dell subsidiary is the self-proclaimed first manufacturer on the market to stuff dual 64GB solid state disks into a consumer PC. Of course, you'll be paying out the nose to add 128GB of un-RAIDed SSD goodness to an Area-51 m9750 gaming notebook -- just about $2,000, nearly doubling the machine's base price. Those feeling a little "stingier" or perhaps requiring more storage space can also opt for a 64GB SSD / 200GB 7,200RPM HDD combo as well, which only tacks another $1,400 onto an entry-level rig. Still, despite the steep cost, we're sure that there are more than a few folks out there who can't put a price on having the fastest read times in their guild.
